Ready...Set...Ride Uses Computer Security

Ready...Set...Ride is a mobile application that uses GPS tracking to provide students with accurate, real time arrival times of Centro buses and shuttles. In addition to bus arrival times, Ready...Set...Ride will also provide directions to nearest bus stops, transit directions from one location go another, bus route maps, and alerts for each time the every bus is running its final route.

Computer Security involves the methods that are used to protect a company's information. In the case of Ready...Set...Ride, these methods will be implicated to protect both the company and the user's information. Ready...Set...Ride will need  a "Computer security plan," which is a written summary of several methods of protection that  a company adopts to protect their information (Shelly and Vermaat, 645).

One of the features that makes Ready...Set...Ride unique is the location based service that allows users to input their current location in order to find the closest and easiest bus route for them. Ensuring that a user's information is safe will be paramount to the company. Using a strong method of computer security, The managers of Ready...Set...Ride will ensure their users never have to worry about the risks that come with revealing such sensitive information.

In addition to protecting the users' personal information, the company will also need to protect it's own information. All computers used in the main office will need to be secured against loss of data, viruses, and hacking. Only certified users will be allowed on the computers, and they will all be required to use passwords. All forms of data will be backed up to external hard drives and perhaps other computers. And finally the best kind of anti-virus system will be used to protect the systems form all sorts of malware.

  1. Ready Set Ride is a very smart, tangible and timely idea. I hope it actually launches, as the Syracuse community will definitely benefit, and might I say it should launch before the snow gets here! On thinking of security issues, I don't about Centro buses but buses in certain metro areas are prone to hijacking whereby the passengers are robbed off their belongings. As Ready Set Go enables anyone to know the location of the bus within a certain radius, there is the probability it may aid these illegal activities.

  2. It is a very useful app since I currently still have trouble with the schedule that Centro provided with. Also it will be excellent for tourists who are not familiar with Syracuse transportation. With Ready Set Ride, they simply just need to download it and the GPS service can tell them the nearest but stop around their current location which is really brilliant!

  3. You bring up many valid points about security. This is a very smart and useful application. This would be great for anyone especially for people not familiar with how the busing systems work in the Syracuse. (especially me!) I hope this app is actually made because it would very successful. Great Job!

  4. I feel this type of application has been talked about all over Syracuse University campus but no one has taken action to put it into play. You have done a great job building a foundation for this idea and would really hope you pursue it and keep building on it. I really like how you will incorporate Photoshop in your advertisements and encourage paperless schedules to limit waste.
